Highways and Interstate Access
The Harrisonburg Metro Area has convenient access to three of Virginia’s major Interstate corridors. I-81, the north/south route, offers six interchanges within the City of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. Travel and transportation east and west are covered by I-64, just 20 miles to the south, and I-66, only 36 miles to the north and is connected to a number of major highways, including historic U.S. Route 11.

Virginia Port Authority
Headquartered in Norfolk, the Virginia Port Authority, boasting the deepest harbor on the East Coast, operates three major world-class port facilities in the Hampton Roads area for break-bulk and container cargo. With connections to +200 countries around the world, nearly 30 international shipping lines offer direct, dedicated service to and from Virginia, providing vital links to international markets. Deep water and the absence of overhead restrictions give the Port of Virginia a significant competitive advantage.
Virginia Inland Port (VIP)
The Virginia Inland Port is located just west of Washington, D.C., in Front Royal, only one hour from Rockingham County. Cargo service is provided from the other three state-owned terminals to VIP five days a week, bringing the Port of Virginia 220 miles closer to the U.S. market. The Virginia Inland Port is within one mile of I-66 and within five miles of I-81. The terminal contains 17,820 feet of on-site rail serviced by Norfolk Southern.
